Adapun Hardiknas diperingati pada tanggal 2 Mei setiap tahunnya. Berdasarkan Pedoman Peringatan Hari Pendidikan Nasional 2023 yang dikeluarkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi (Kemendikbudristek), bulan Hardiknas 2023 diperingati ditetapkan sebagai bulan Merdeka Belajar.

Hardiknas 2023 mengambil tema “Bergerak Bersama Semarakkan Merdeka Belajar”. Lewat tema tersebut, tercermin keinginan untuk bergerak dan membuat perubahan. Sehingga semarak dalam Merdeka Belajar yang menjadi program pendidikan dapat terwujud.

Sementara itu, logo Hardiknas 2023 memiliki komponen yang terdiri dari bintang, pena, dan keceriaan. Masing-masing komponen tersebut mempunyai makna tersendiri. Seperti bintang berarti semangat, pena adalah simbol pendidikan, sedangkan keceriaan menggambarkan antusiasme yang tinggi.

Tanggal kelahiran Ki Hadjar Dewantara yang kemudian dijuluki sebagai Bapak Pendidikan Nasional dijadikan dasar dalam penetapan Hardiknas.

Tujuan dari peringatan tersebut adalah mengenang jasa-jasa beliau semasa hidupnya. Salah satunya adalah memperjuangkan agar pendidikan bisa diakses secara merata oleh semua golongan masyarakat.
