International Friendship Day diperingati setiap tahunnya untuk merayakan persahabatan antara masyarakat, negara, budaya dan individu dapat menginspirasi upaya perdamaian dan membangun jembatan antar-komunitas.

Amir Levine, seorang psikiater sekaligus penulis "Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find and Keep Love" mengatakan hubungan pertemanan memiliki dampak yang cukup besar bagi kondisi emosional individu secara umum.
"Koneksi sosial adalah cara paling ampuh bagi kita untuk mengatur tekanan emosi kita," kata Levine. "Jika Anda dalam kesulitan, berada dalam jarak dekat dengan seseorang yang melekat erat dengan Anda adalah cara paling efektif untuk menenangkan diri" lanjutnya seperti yang dilansir dari New York Times.
Selain itu menurut Mayo Clinic, secara tidak langsung hubungan pertemanan juga dapat memengaruhi kondisi kesehatan fisik individu, yaitu dengan relasi persahabatan kita mampu meningkatkan sense of belonging (rasa memiliki) serta tujuan hidup, sampai dengan mendukung individu menjalani gaya hidup yang baik dan sehat.
