Sutradara terbaik dimenangkan oleh Chloé Zhao atas kerja-kerjanya di film Nomadland. Sementara itu, aktor pendukung terbaik dimenangkan oleh Daniel Kaluuya dalam perannya di film Judas and the Black Messiah.
Untuk kategori aktris terbaik Oscar (Best Supporting Actress) dimenangkan oleh Yuh-Jung Youn di filmnya Minari.
Yuh-Jung Youn menjadi aktris pertama Korea yang memenangkan Oscar. Ia mengalahkan nominator lainnya, yaitu Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), Glenn Close (Hillbilly Elegy), Olivia Colman (The Father) dan Amanda Seyfried (Mank).
Malam penghargaan Oscar 2021 disiarkan secara langsung dari Union Station Los Angeles dan Dolby® Theatre di Hollywood & Highland Center® di Hollywood.
Oscar tahun ini dihadiri langsung oleh tamu-tamu dalam jumlah terbatas hanya untuk nomine, presenter dan tamu mereka, tanpa aplikasi Zoom.
Oscar tahun ini menghadirkan para pembawa acara terkenal seperti Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Bong Joon Ho, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Laura Dern, Harrison Ford, Regina King, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Renée Zellweger, dan Zendaya.
