tirto.id - Maroon 5 baru saja merilis single lagu berjudul "Memories" di kanal YouTube, 8 Oktober 2019. Ada yang berbeda dalam karya band asal Amerika itu kali ini. Sebab, Adam Levine, vokalis sekaligus penulis lirik "Memories", mengatakan ini adalah lagu terberat yang pernah ia tulis.
Di acara The Ellen Show, Adam Levine secara terbuka menyatakan, bahwa ia merasa terpukul usai manajer sekaligus sahabatnya Jordan Feldstein wafat pada Desember 2017. Sehingga ia memutuskan untuk menumpahkan rasa sedih itu melalui lagu yang diberi judul "Memories".
Jordan adalah kakak aktor dan komedian Jonan Hill yang meninggal karena gumpalan darah di kakinya, ia wafat di usianya yang ke 40 tahun. "Aku baru saja kehilangan manajer dan sahabatku," kata dia seperti dilansir Ace Showbiz.
Sepanjang kariernya dalam musik, Adam bahkan mengaku tidak pernah membuat lagu dengan tema kesedihan mendalam seperti itu, karena merasa benar-benar amat terpukul atas kehilangan seorang sahabat. "Ini sangat berat. Saya tidak pernah memiliki lagu tentang hal seperti ini."
Menurut Adam, lagu tersebut ia bikin untuk membalas jasa-jasa sahabatnya itu. "Saya merindukannya setiap hari dan bagi saya ini adalah cara terbaik untuk membalas jasa kepadanya."
Maroon 5 belum lama ini baru saja melakukan konser tur dunia untuk album Red Pill Blues yang rilis akhir tahun 2017. Untuk wilayah Asia, konser itu juga sempat berlangsung di Singapura, Bangkok, Manila, dan Tokyo.
Red Pill Blues adalah album keenam Maroon 5 yang mana "Girls Like You", "What Lovers Do", dan "Wait" termasuk di dalamnya meskipun ketiga lagu tersebut dirilis secara komersil sebagai single.
Debut album ini menempati posisi nomor 2 di Billborad Album Chart. Di sisi lain, album ini menampilkan beberapa kolaborasi dengan musisi perempuan untuk menyuarakan pemberdayaan perempuan.
Tidak hanya itu, cover dari album ini juga terbilang unik karena menampilkan foto para personel dengan filter effect yang ada di Snapchat dan moda foto polaroid.
“Kami semua menggunakan Snapchat dan filter-nya yang telah menjadi bagian terbesar dari kultur [saat ini]. Kami pikir ini akan menyenangkan untuk sebuah foto cover band dengan sejumput kesenangan,” kata Adam Levine seperti dikutip Billboard.
Selama berkarier, Maroon 5 telah banyak meraih prestasi berupa penghargaan seperti tiga Grammy, tiga American Music Awards, dan empat Billboard Music Awards.
