Musisi Korea-Amerika Jessi mengatakan dia berharap lagu barunya 'What Type of X' akan menginspirasi pendengar untuk menjadi "lebih percaya diri".
Dilansir dari NME, Senin (22/3/2021), Penyanyi sekaligus rapper tersebut mencatat bahwa "hal yang paling penting" baginya adalah cinta diri dan betapa pentingnya bagi ‘What Type Of X’ untuk mencerminkan hal itu.
“Saya adalah wanita dengan mentalitas yang kuat dan bagi saya, mencintai diri sendiri adalah hal yang paling krusial. Jika Anda tidak mencintai diri sendiri, tidak ada yang akan melakukannya. Selain itu, Anda juga harus dikelilingi oleh orang-orang yang memberikan aura positif,” ujarnya.
“Melalui lagu ini, saya ingin memberi tahu orang-orang agar lebih percaya diri dan berharap mereka ingat bahwa menjadi berbeda itu tidak salah," tambah Jessi.
Jessi ikut menulis 'What Type of X' dengan Psy, yang merupakan kepala agensinya P Nation. Psy. Dia berbagi bahwa lirik aslinya ditulis dalam bahasa Inggris sebelum Psy membantu menerjemahkannya, menambahkan bahwa duo tersebut “tidak berdebat sebanyak yang kami lakukan di masa lalu saat bekerja bersama”.
Tahun lalu, Jessi merilis lagu hit 'Nunu Nana', yang menduduki nomor dua di obrolan musik Korea Selatan, Gaon.
