tirto.id - Lagu ON yang dinyanyikan oleh BTS pertama kali dirilis pada awal tahun 2020 bersama album Map of the Soul: 7. Video klipnya diluncurkan lewat kanal YouTube HYBE dan sampai saat ini telah ditonton lebih dari 310 juta kali.
Lagu ON kemudian dirilis kembali lewat album antologi Proof yang diluncurkan BTS pada tanggal 10 Juni 2022 lalu.
Melansir laman Soompi, agensi Big Hit mengungkapkan bahwa ON adalah refleksi dari pola pikir BTS sebagai musisi selama bertahun-tahun. Lewat lagu ON, BTS seolah ingin bercerita tentang apa yang mereka rasakan, khususnya setelah menjadi terkenal.
Liriknya menggambarkan bahwa BTS kadang merasa takut dengan apa yang mungkin akan terjadi di masa depan. Namun di waktu yang sama, mereka berusaha tetap berani dan siap menghadapi apapun.
Secara keseluruhan, lagu ON mengandung pesan untuk tidak mudah menyerah dan jangan sampai berhenti untuk melangkah.
Dalam acara MTV Fresh Out, Jungkook sempat bercerita tentang ide pemberian judul lagu ON. Mengingat Mapof the Soul: 7 adalah album dengan konsep reboot, lagu ON dibuat sebagai cerminan dari lagu N.O yang dirilis BTS di tahun 2013.
Kedua lagu tersebut sama-sama menceritakan bagaimana BTS sebagai anak muda harus menghadapi tekanan. Bedanya, jika lagu N.O. berfokus pada tekanan akademik, ON lebih fokus pada tantangan yang lebih besar saat BTS menjadi terkenal.
