Acara penghargaan BBMA 2022 digelar mulai pukul 07.00 WIB, Senin, 16 Mei, atau tanggal 15 Mei 2022 pukul 20.00 waktu Las Vegas, Amerika Serikat. Berlangsung di MGM grand Garden Arena Las Vegas, ajang Billboard Music Awards 2022 disiarkan langsung melalui NBC.
Billboard Musik Awards merupakan penghargaan musik yang diberikan setiap tahun oleh Biilboard sejak tahun 1990 (kecuali 2007-2010). Sebelum tahun 2010, acara ini biasa diadakan setiap bulan Desember, dan kemudian digeser ke bulan Mei setiap tahunnya.
Dikutip dari laman Billboard Musik Awards, penentuan finalis "Billboard Music Awards" didasarkan pada interaksi musisi dengan penggemar musik, penjualan album dan lagu digital, pemutaran lagu di radio, streaming, tur, dan keterlibatan sosial, yang dilacak oleh Billboard dan mitranya, termasuk Nielsen Music dan Next Big Sound. Penghargaan didasarkan pada periode pelaporan 12 bulan.
