Diumumkan pada Rabu (3/2/2021), daftar nominasi Golden Globe Awards 2021 menempatkan film Mank dalam 6 kategori. Film karya David Fincher itu masuk nominasi Best Director bersaing dengan Emerald Fennell melalui film Promising Young Woman serta Aaron Sorkin dengan filmnya The Trial of the Chicago 7. Dua nominasi lainnya dalam Best Director yaitu Chloé Zhao dan Regina King.
Kejutan datang dari Anya Taylor-Joy yang masuk dalam dua nominasi. Dilansir Deadline, Anya masuk nominasi Best Actress in a Film Musical or Comedy dan nominasi Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie.
Dalam nominasi Best Actor in a film Musical or Comedy muncul nama Sacha Baron Cohen yang menggebrak AS melalui film Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Sedangkan penampilannya dalam film The Trial of the Chicago 7 yang berperan sebagai Abbie Hoffman membawa dirinya masuk dalam nominasi Best Supporting Actor in a film.
Dalam nominasi Best Actress in a Film Drama, muncul nama yang diunggulkan yaitu Frances McDormand yang tampil dalam film Nomadland. Sedangkan empat aktris lainnya yang masuk dalam nominasi ini adalah Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Andra Day (The United States vs Billie Holiday) Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman), dan Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman).
